about

Timbalist Moncho Leña made his debut in 1952 at the Coconut Hut Club in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. His popular performances landed him an invitation to perform in New York, at the famous Palladium in 1955. Two years later, Ansonia Records ventured to capture the spirit of their Palladium performances onto wax with A Night at the Palladium.

Accompanied by the famed “tongue twister” vocalist Mon Rivera, Los Ases Del Ritmo are: renowned musician Hector Rivera on piano, José “Chiquitín” Morales, Fernando “Mano” Sanabria, Edil Rivera, and Eddie Fiejo on trumpet, Eladio “Laly” Jusino on bongos, José Martínez on tumbadora, and Humberto “Sabú” Rosario on bass.

"A Night at the Palladium" features the plena classics “Alo! Quien Nama?” (originally composed and performed by Mon Rivera’s father, Ramon Rivera Alers in the 1930s) and “Juana Maria.”
