Rey Arroyo, born Israel Arroyo in Arecibo, Puerto Rico in 1930, started his career in New York City. His first performance was with Trio Yaguez in 1948 at the Triboro Theater on 125th Street in NYC for a Latin audience. Shortly after, he formed his own group, Trio Santurce. The trio disbanded in 1950 when Arroyo was recruited into the US Army where he served for three years. Upon his discharge, he re-organized a trio, Rey Arroyo y su Trio, with Junior Gonzáles and Angel Nieves.

This album includes beautiful interpretations of composer Germán Lugo’s boleros “Entrega” and “Entre Pared y la Espada."
