about

Cheíto González was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico in 1935. In 1947, at the age of 12, he participated in a local amateur contest and was awarded first prize. In 1950, he moved to New York. There, he performed on radio programs and collaborated with many bolero trios in the city, such as Rey Arroyo's Trio Santurce. He returned to Puerto Rico in 1955 where he found success with Trio Casino de Santurce. In 1958, he moved to Mexico City and performed with Los Tres Reyes for a year before moving back to Puerto Rico and re-forming Trio Casino de Santurce. However, he moved once again to New York City in 1961.

He recorded two solo albums for Ansonia Records shortly before he died of a drug overdose at the age of 27 in 1962.
